First research period new creation 2015: “Be like water”

From August 11 – 22 Kari will conduct a research period in Oslo with dancers Antero Hein, Hanna Mjåvatn and Åsne Storli, developing movement vocabulary and themes for the creation of the new work Be like water with planned premiere 2015.

Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless, shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend. – Bruce Lee

Created with the fear of the impending man-made apocalypse of climate change as a backdrop, choreographer Kari Hoaas is choosing to work within a poetic and impressionistic vein, exploring physical, emotional, ritual, scientific and social themes of that basic element of all life: water.

The final work is planned to have a cast of six dancers. An original score is being commissioned by Norwegian composer Morten Pettersen.

Several research and development periods with various collaborators in the production are being scheduled for fall/winter 2014-15. Premiere planned for 2015. Be like water has recieved funding from Arts Council Norway and we are currently raising additional funds to meet the budget goals.
